On July 29, 2014, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced an extension on the temporary moratoria on new provider enrollment applications as well as on applications adding additional practice locations for Home Health Agencies (and related sub-units) and Part B ambulance suppliers. The temporary moratoria is for an additional six months.

Pursuant to the requirements imposed by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), New Jersey Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services is beginning a revalidation process of all NJ FamilyCare (NJFM) fee-for-service (FFS) providers. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will begin implementing the fingerprint-based background checks for providers and suppliers in certain risk categories. The New York State’s Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) has released its program of activities for the current fiscal year. As in previous years, the agency’s audit and investigation function remain strong. It’s that time of the year when qualifying providers enrolled with the NYS Medicaid Program must certify that they have a adopted, implemented and maintained an effective mandatory compliance program. The NYS Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) is tasked with responsibility of overseeing that providers meet this requirement. In August, the New York State Inspector General (OMIG) denied enrollment to a pharmacy after an on-site inspection revealed several deficiencies. An apparent egregious case of non-compliance serves as a vivid reminder of why providers must comply with their professional requirements as well as why they must observe NYS Medicaid rules and regulations at all times. New York State Medicaid Program posted new applications on April 1, 2013 for non-billing providers that order, prescribe, and/or refer beneficiaries with fee-for-service Medicaid coverage. New Jersey Medicaid required all such providers to be enrolled an “non-billing” providers by Jan. 1, 2013.
